Amazing historical and iconic place of Japan this place is a must see.

If you ever get a chance to go to Nara, drop by Horyuji, its one stop after Oji station from Osaka to Nara. Take the bus to one of the oldest temples in Japan. This simple but ancient temple is simply sublime. Not a lot of tourists go, so its quite easy to enjoy and soak in the history.

Admission: 1500 JPY... Most temples are 500 JPY or free.

Impressive temple, the oldest wooden building in the world. We had a volunteer free English guide who explained to us in great detail the peculiarities of the place. Our entrance also included the visit to the museum and other buildings. It is much quieter than the temples in Nara park, and it just 30 minutes by local train from Nara (JR lines)

This is, for most people, of the beaten track so it's a lot less crowded than other temples in Nara ( todaji,...) But still be sure to ge early ( before 9 ) to experience it in all pecefulness. Take your time walking around and be sure to see all 3 parts of the complex

It's the oldest preserved wooden temple complex in the world, definitely worth to see. The two pagodas are the main attraction, but the gate with the 2 guardians is nice and all the surrounding area with all the other historical buildings, park and museum (exhibits dating back to the 6th century, mostly statues) are beautiful. I suggest you to follow the tour guide inside the brochure that you get with the ticket, It makes you explore all the interests systematically, so you do not miss anything. I would reserve at least 3 hours (including a 1 hour visit inside the museum) to explore and appreciate the soul of this place. It's about 30 minutes walk from the train station.

Incredible experience, the structures are very old and the architecture impressive. Great example of pre-kyoto period Japan

Beautiful temple, amazing what they could build before heavy machinery. And amazing that it has been preserved for all this time.

Quick and simple. Abunai with the roads though.

ItΓ’β¬β’s the oldest temple in Japan!!Also the last tourist attraction with primarily Japanese tourists.(I was super surprised!!)

One of my absolute favorite shrines. Some excellent examples of ancient architecture and itΓ’β¬β’s far away from Nara so you can escape the crowds. Some of the oldest wooden structures on the planet and one of the shrine that kept its style throughout the years. DonΓ’β¬β’t miss it.

The place is interesting, it's just that there is no so much information in languages different than Japanese

We decided to stop by when passing through Nara. Great place with lots of history. I went there with my kid, so couldn't spend the proper time studying the different building and artifacts. It's a good one day visit!
